What to Expect at Your Olathe Chiropractor
Welcome to Woodroof Chiropractic & Acupuncture in Olathe. Your first visit is designed to be straightforward, thorough, and focused on answers—not guesswork. We start with a doctor-led evaluation to understand what’s driving your symptoms, then we explain what we found and what your next steps should be.
Many new patients come in because of pain or symptoms that overlap across conditions. If you’d like to read the condition-specific pages, start here:

What happens at the first visit
Your first appointment typically includes three parts:
1) Intake + history (your story matters)
We start with paperwork and a focused conversation about:
- Where your symptoms are located, how they started, and what makes them better or worse
- Prior injuries, imaging, and relevant medical history
- Your goals (work, workouts, parenting, sleep, driving, etc.)
2) Physical examination (to identify the most likely pain generator)
Your exam is tailored to your symptoms and may include:
- Range-of-motion and movement testing
- Posture and functional assessment
- Orthopedic and neurologic tests (strength, sensation, reflex screening when indicated)
3) Imaging only when clinically necessary
Not everyone needs X-rays. We recommend imaging when your history or exam findings suggest it’s necessary for safety, clarity, or decision-making.
Same-day care (when appropriate):
If it’s safe and appropriate after the evaluation, we often begin care on the first visit—so you can start moving forward immediately.
“Day 2” visit: Report of Findings + your plan
Your second visit is where we connect the dots. We review:
- What we found on your exam (and imaging, if performed)
- The working diagnosis and why it best fits your symptoms
- A clear plan: frequency, timeline, goals, and checkpoints so you know what progress should look like
Your plan may include in-office care and supportive therapies, based on your needs:
We also provide practical at-home guidance when appropriate, including mobility, posture, and core activation strategies. You can reference our patient resources here:
Quick answers to common “first visit” questions
Will I get adjusted on my first visit?
Often, yes—if it’s safe and appropriate after your evaluation. If we need imaging or more information first, we’ll explain exactly why and what happens next.
How long does the first visit take?
Most first visits take about 45–60 minutes.
What should I wear?
Comfortable clothing that allows you to move easily (athletic wear or loose-fitting clothes). Avoid restrictive outfits that limit motion testing.
Will I be sore after treatment?
Most people feel improved motion and relief. Some experience mild soreness (similar to a new workout) for 24–48 hours as tissues adapt.
How much does the first visit cost?
Cost depends on insurance benefits and what services are appropriate for your case. If you want a benefits overview, see our Insurance Page
