Common Causes of Whiplash Pain

  • Rear-end collisions are the most common cause of whiplash. To reduce the risk of whiplash in a car accident, you can try to maintain a safe distance from the car in front of you and avoid slamming on the brakes. You can also make sure your seat belt is adjusted properly to fit snugly across your shoulder.
  • Sports: Contact sports like football, hockey, and rugby can cause whiplash, especially if you receive a sudden blow to the head.
  • Falls: A slip or fall can cause whiplash if your head is suddenly jolted backwards.
  • Other traumas: Whiplash can also be caused by physical abuse or cycling accidents.
